We got to talk with Aku Sinivalo, Kimmo Koso and Pasi Sundqvist of Lindenhurst in early September 2000 as the band had just completed the tribute song "Deep Thinker", originally made by "Tasavallan Presidentti" in 1970. The song will be released in October on The Finnish Progressive Rock Society Colossus´ tribute 2CD "Tribute to Finnish Progressive Rock of 60´ We got to talk with Aku Sinivalo, Kimmo Koso and Pasi Sundqvist of Lindenhurst in early September 2000 as the band had just completed the tribute song "Deep Thinker", originally made by "Tasavallan Presidentti" in 1970. August was really busy time for Lindenhurst. They were late in schedual of the tribute song. The recording company had a deadline in the end of August for the tracks of the compilation CD.
Aku was doing also 2 other projects at the same time, he was basicly living at the studio, Pasi was just a just a lodger. - I was there only for most of the evenings and nights. I drank a lot of Jolt cola for coffeine, Pasi laughs.
The recording process had started earlier in the spring in another studio with drum recordings. The schedual was not planned as busy as it turned out to be in the autumn. - In the summer however, to our disappointment, we didn´t get to do anything because of the difficult holiday season and in the autumn we already had another plans for a studio, Kimmo explains. -Yeah, naturally I wanted to do my parts in my own studio, Aku adds. - So it was more convenient to switch completely to Sonic Kitchen. We just didn´t find a proper way to move the drum tracks from an analog studio to the digital world of Sonic Kitchen so Pasi brought his enormous kit over and we completely re-recorded the drums.
After the drums were re-recorded, the process started to move quite fast: - Well, it was about time. The time was running out and we had only August to finish the track. I also had bronchitis for a weekend and Aku had a flu for some days, Pasi tells. - And I was providing material for the band´s internet site which was being build up by web designer Jake Laisi. That really kept me busy.
- As I happend to phone the head man of Ageness, Tommy Eriksson, he told me that the actual dead line is 15th of August, and the day a phoned him was about 13th! Pasi tells. - Earlier Marco Bernard, the chairman of Colossus had told me the dead line was the end of August. I phoned him and he relieved me by telling that they had extented the dead line till the end of August, phew!
- Another problem was that my schedual didn´t fit to the end of August when it was time to record the guitars, Kimmo tells. - By that time I was already busy elsewhere so the boys had to take a special guest to play the guitar solo, Tuomo Borman. I think Tuomo did a good job, Kimmo says. - We intented to record a lot more guitars for the song but I run out of time.
Finally the song was on a DAT-tape on 31st of August. The tape was sent to Colossus on 1st of October, a day late of schedual However, the delay was approved and when the DAT reached Colossus, Lindenhurst was shown green light for the compilation.
Currently in September the band is concentrating in working with their own material and the recording of the "Dream Line" EPCD is about to start. - The drums are scheduled to be recorded in the end of September for all of the 3 three songs. By mid November we´ll propably have most of the material ready and the final mix will be done in early December, Pasi plans. It remains to be seen. - Our own songs are a lot longer and a lot more complicated than "Deep Thinker" but also we have had a longer time to think them through, Pasi explains.
