Alton, IL-- Aspiring birder Marshall DeYoung, 17, was shopping at the local Borders store after a morning of birding, 50 species for the day. Looking at birding magazines, he was shocked to find Bird Watching Digest had been shoved to the rack with "old people magazines". "It was no longer with travel and outdoor magazines, left of the hunting and fishing section. It was now with genealogy, antiques and other stationary acivities in the old people magazines. I'm not buying it anymore. There were some bird feeder magazines too." Marshall thinks he has a very active hobby. "It's like surfing to me. I do talk to some old birders once in a while, and they are a bit slower, but not too bad. They know a lot of stuff."
