Arena - Contagion
We just received the long awaited new studio album from 2003 (their 8th) by this great UK Prog band. As their last albums, especially the brilliant `Immortal?`, are extremely difficult to top, let`s just say that the new album firmly confirms the status already achieved by the group. There is an entire concept behind the music and the lyrics, as often in Prog. Brilliant all the way!
King Crimson - Discipline
King Crimson - Three Of A Perfect Pair
Both Remastered Mini-sleeves HDCD limited edition 30th anniversary series. These are real gems and collector items - very hard to find already.
Free - Fire And Water
Remastered with bonus tracks and including the monster hit `All Right Now`.
We are now expanding our jazz section to ballance the extensive selection we have been building in Progressive Rock during the last year.
All the following on the label Jazzline/Lipstick
Contempo Trio - No Jumf`s Allowed
Bill Saxton - Atymony
Tony Lakatos - Recycling
Charlie Mariano - Innuendo
All the following on the excellent Dutch jazz label Challenge
Houdini`s - Hybrid
Houdini`s - Play the Big Five
Caroly Breuer/Fee Claassen - Simply Be
Bob Brookmeyer New Quartet - Paris Suite
Leonardo Amuedo - Dolphin Dance
Soesja Citroen - Here and Now
Michiel Borstlap - The Sextet Live (2CD)
Nat Adderley - Good Company
Dick Sudhalter - After Awhile
Spiegle Willcox - Jazz Keeps You Young
Gary Bartz - Episode One Cildren Of Harlem
Eric Vloeimans - First Floor
Jasper Van`t Hof - At The Concertgebouw-solo
Jasper Van`t Hof - Tomorrowland
There will be quite a few new jazz titles in the near future!
Shadowland - Ring of Roses
Shadowland - Mad as a Hatter
Shadowland - Through the Looking Glass
Shadowland is another project led by Clive Nolan, who is the leader of Arena and Pendragon.
Clive Nolan/Oliver Wakeman - The Hound of the Baskervilles
Another cooperation between these two keyboards players, who also made `Jabberwocky` previously. Host of guests musicians - beautiful!
BTW `Jabberwocky` is back in stock, as is Arena - Songs from the Lion Cage.
Also please note a new option on the Jazzis Web Shop genre selection menu (right menu): `Jazzis Web Shop Statistics`. There you can see the number of items and their distribution by genre.
Have Fun!

I must be out of it, only recognize King Crimson!
When I visit Finland, I usually listen to some CDs before I buy. Here and in the net, well, you only have some samples to play at best...
I understand perfectly, but in the typical situation, you really have no other data, except reviews.
The one thing I usually spot right away is the voices used. Even from a sample, I can tell I don't like the singer.
But for prog, it is mostly useless, I agree.
There is always something new to learn! :)
As to sound samples on the net:
I am really agaist this for 2 main reasons:
1. It's not legal, as I don't have the rights to the music (only 30 seconds is legal)
2. More importantly - it's really a disservice IMO to play 30 seconds of some serious music (like Prog or Jazz) - you can't really get to know the music this way. It's like wieving a Van Gogh painting through a tiny hole in a wall seeing only 1 square inch? :D
I hope you understand.

Jazzis, is it possible to get the cd-version of Comus : First Utterance from your shop? The shop says it's out of stock but can you order it from somewhere, or is it completely sold out?
Recent Soleil Zeuhl reissue of Eskaton's Ardeur would be really nice, too.

You guys are cruel :D
One spelling mistake (now gone) and you hang me!!!
Good fun was had by all ;)
Mr. Jazzis - why your web shop forces browser to full screen. It is a bit annoyning when your default desktop is 1280 pixels wide and browser window something like 800 pixels by default.
Dear Doc,
The minimum required to make the site operational is 800 x 640.
I enforce this size, rather then enforcing full screen (in your case 1280). Let me know what you'd like to see? I'm always open to hear your opinions!
I use full screen on my Mozilla, and it's still pretty annoying when your web shop forces browser to "full screen", which isn't really a full screen.
The minimum required to make the site operational is 800 x 640.
It seems that interface wont fit to the smaller screen - is this the only reason for enforcing browser window?
Yes, as I said the reason is that it won't be operational under a smaller window then 800 x 600 (you'd be surprised how many people still use 640 x 480 ??).
So what do you suggest - should I force full window according to the user's screen resolution? Please let me know.
should I force full window according to the user's screen resolution?
You can suggest it, but you can't force it, and it's actually yet another good reason to disable javascripts.
Any kind of pull down menus (form element or javascript) are troublesome inside frame. Maybe you should simply rearrange pull down menus so that page will fit into 640*-resolution. Or do complete redesign: get rid of frames and do complelty scalable web page. :)
Dear Doc & Jimi,
Thanks for your comments. :)
I have disabled the size enforcement, we'll see how that works.
However I have some serious comments on what you have said abot web design (As an experienced developer and teacher of the subject):
"yet another good reason to disable javascripts."
"Any kind of pull down menus (form element or javascript) are troublesome inside frame"
I completely disagree with this! There is nothing wrong with JavaScript, Frames, Pull-down menus or anything else in the technology. In fact, even though I seriously disagree with Microsoft on many issues, including their morality, I must admit that their contribution to Web development is enormous and Internet Explorer is a superb program. All the Web developments including scripts, DHTML, CSS, ASP, etc., etc., are great and positive.
There is never anything wrong with technology, only with the way some people are using it!
I also think that sticking to old methodology and having "straight forward" and "simple" HTML code only is conservative, to say the least.
Bearing all this in mind, I'll think this over and redesign the interface (yet again) of course - development never ends :D
Thank you again for your comments and please visit and BUY! from the shop - I need the support of people like you!
With friendhip,
Well, I didn’t say anything against frames (yet); only that pull down menus within frames are troublesome. Maybe not “always”, as I said, but in many cases they are, and one case can be seen on your site. Yet, personally I try to avoid using frames, because for me it is a lazy way to do things. And in addition they cause trouble with search engines when they refer to single pages which are meant to view within frameset (of course there is java script roundabout for this, but why first knowingly do something wrong and then fix it) I am not so technically minded fellow: I evaluate pages more from the viewpoint of marketing and user experience. When I saw your shop for the first time, I was like: were's all the stuff??? That means: it is not good to hide product types (music genres at this time) “behind” pull down menus. Users are rather happier when they are able to see at first glance what you offer. So in my opinion you should move genres to the “front” by using standard navigation buttons/links/whatever.
All web shops should look and feel like Amazon. They know how to do it. ;)
There is never anything wrong with technology, only with the way some people are using it!
That is true, and since users don't have any control over how webmasters use, for example, javascripts, the only thing they can do is to adjust their browsers. Most of the javascripts are harmless/useless, but many of them are just plain annoying. Unfortunately some useful sites (like AMG) don't function without them.
Thank you again for your comments and please visit and BUY! from the shop - I need the support of people like you!
By now I can only offer spiritual support, :) but your selection is exellent and prices right. Good luck!
The Jazzis Web Shop user interface was redesigned, especially the navigation menu, which is now more "conventional", as some of our customers found the previous navigation menus cumbersome.
Please visit and let us know what you think! As you can see your opinion counts!
Have fun!
Yes Doc!!! Your opinion counts! Please see now and let me know what you think.
Amazon!!?? - you hurt me - read my article! BTW I don't think this is such a great site - to fleshy for me, not to say confusing. But everybody's taste is different :P

[Edited on 1/3/2003 / jazzis]
I think Amazon is a great site. There are lots of different elements but the design never gets a bit annoying. Amazon is well organised and easy to use. I'm sorry to say this, but Jazzis Web Shop is much more inconvenient.
And by the way, I think it's dumb to make accusations concerning your potential customers. I'm using Amazon and felt a bit offended as you wrote that my actions are pissing you off. I doubt if I'll ever order anything from your shop as I really didn't like the somewhat harsh treatment. Have you ever heard of the saying which claims that "the customer is always right"? I understand your anger but didn't like the way you expressed it.\n[Muokattu 1/3/2003 / waka/jawaka]
Jazzis: When I try to chance the currency to euro on your shop, my Mozilla gets crazy. The browser is just loading the site again and again forever and flashing the site undecided if it should show me something or not.
Yes Doc!!! Your opinion counts! Please see now and let me know what you think.
I guess average customer is more happy with the new navigation system. Have you ever tested your site on live humans? If not, try sometime: there is no limit to the human cluelessness.
Hint: centered text is harder to read than left aligned.
Doc
Yes I have tested it - we have about 200 visits every day and growing.
I liked centered better - all a matter of taste.
Voffe
I have no idea what happened - this works perfectly for everybody so far - let me know what version of browser you are using.
waka/jawaka
I'm sorry to hear you feel that way. Everybody sees things differently so you shouldn't take it personally. My "objection" to buying at Amazon is "ideological" not technical - please read my article again. If you decide NOT to buy from Jazzis Web Shop because of the article - it's your prorogative, but you're missing the point IMO.
Thanks everybody for your opinions.
I liked centered better - all a matter of taste.
Dear Jazzis, it is not a matter of taste, but a fact that according to usabilty research cented text is harder to read than left aligned. Of course this wont affect your sales - I guess. :)
I have no idea what happened - this works perfectly for everybody so far - let me know what version of browser you are using.
Yeah, also my Mozilla crashes completly.
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.0.1) Gecko/20020826
http://www.mozilla.org/releases/mozilla1.0/
My Mozilla doesn't crash, but instead jams the system to the extent that I had to reach for my computer's reset button for the first time ever. The version I'm using is Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.2.1) Gecko/20021130
And just for the record: no matter how many independent prog CD vendors there are, I'm still going to continue buying my books from Amazon ;)\n[Muokattu 2/3/2003 / Viukkis]
Doc
Just for you! I left-aligned them
Viukkis
I rewrote the currency change function - it works perfectly on IE but I made it to work on all browsers I hope - please check and let me know. :P
All these comments are very valuable - thank you for your input, time and patience. :)
And I buy my books from Amazon too :D
(Since there are no small independent book vendors?)
Works for me at least :)
Also I forgot to tell you - the currency is now stored in your cookie, so next time you visit it'll be the same you selected last.
What dodn't I do to sell a few CDs? :D
BTW did any of you try to select a different color scheme (appearance)? This can be fun :P
Thank you again!
Now the currency changing seems to work fine also with my Mozilla.
I think you got me all wrong now, dear Jazzis. I totally understand your ideological antipathies.
The technical things I wrote didn't have anything to do with my latter comments on the article you wrote.
Dear waka/jawaka (and hail to Zappa!),
It's you who wrote:
"I doubt if I'll ever order anything from your shop as I really didn't like the somewhat harsh treatment. "
How could I missunderstand this? Harsh treatment? My wife would not agree to that! :D But could you expalin please?
You missed my point. I didn't like the way you expressed your opinions, but I do understand that your "objection" is "ideological" rather than technical. However, this doesn't change the fact that I felt offended because of the things you wrote. I really don't understand what's creating the confusion here.
Well fine, be offended if you wish, although I ment no offence of course. Therefore I do appologize, even if it was not intended.
Did you read the opening statemet? You have been warned...:D
I never get offended by other people's opinions - I either agree or disagree with them - that's all.
Be well!
I must say that I really admire your ability to never take anything personally. I wish I too could be like that, but it seems impossible. :)
Good luck with your shop.\n[Muokattu 2/3/2003 / waka/jawaka]
Oh I can take things personally - believe me, but only if they are meant to be personal.
In my article there is absolutely nothing personal I hope.
In any case let's not turn this into a philosophical discussion - this is supposed to be eventually about MUSIC!
