I start the October additions with 2 items:
First another GG remastered album:
GENTLE GIANT ~ PLAYING THE FOOL (35TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION)
8th album (recorded 1976) and the only live recording officially released during while the band was active. Released as a double LP, this well recorded (with natural and remarkably clean sound) album sums up all the early GG albums with the zest and passion GG so wonderfully expressed when playing live. The bonus is a 1974 video previously unseen!
Second a classic rock beauty:
ALLMAN BROTHERS ~ AMERICAN UNIVERSITY 12/13/70
Every piece of recorded legacy by the classic Allman Brothers Band is always welcome, especially is it as well recorded as this one. The Allmans go through their well known material with vigor and passion and the 15+ minutes `You Don`t Love Me` and 20+ minutes `Whippin` Post` are superb showcases of Duane`s mastery of guitar genius. Even if you already own other ABB live recordings, there is never enough of this AFAIAC!
===========================
A huge amount of OOS items are back in stock - I have been updating the stock like mad for the last 2 nights ;) !! This includes the Echolyn CD/DVD `As The World` which everybody seems to want and ALL VDGG items.
===========================
I received another shipment of the Japanese mini-sleeves! Those are all OOP by now and on eBay they are most sought after. If any of you missed any of them - here is your chance! You have been warned ;)!
===========================
Have Fun (lots of it)!

Another 4 Rock classics added today:
CREAM ~ FRESH CREAM
1st album (recorded 1966) by the most influential Rock group of all times. Clapton, Bruce & Baker were all seasoned musicians (in spite of their young age) when they created the first Rock `Super Group` with extensive Blues (Clapton in John Mayall`s Bluesbreakers and Yardbirds) and Jazz (Bruce & Baker in Graham Bond`s Organization) backgrounds, which of course laid the foundation to the extanded improvisations which they introduced into Rock. This debut album includes allready all the elements that made them unique - a mixture of Psychedelia, Blues, Jazz and Rock, incredible compositions (mainly by Bruce), profound lyrics (by Pete Brown) and an aggressive, sharp sound that remains unparalled to this day. Everything Cream recorded is an absolute must!
CREAM ~ DISRAELI GEARS
2nd album (recorded 1967) and certainly one of the most important and influential Rock albums ever recorded. Clapton, Bruce and Baker were all superb instrumentalist and their innovative approach to the Rock and Blues traditions fused together an entirely new musical style almost overnight. The usage of extended improvisation in Rock was completely revolutionary, as were the complex compositions. This is the music that shaped Rock (and Prog) in many years to come and no other musician since can claim that he wasn`t influenced by this music. An absolute must have!
CREAM ~ WHEELS OF FIRE
3rd album (recorded 1967-68) is the peak of the groups legacy. Two separate albums present the group in the studio and live (for the first time). The studio album includes their best material so far, with superb Bruce / Brown material (`White Room`, `Politician`) and some excellent interpretations of outside songs (`Born Under A Bad Sign`). The live album (although subtitled `Live At The Filmore` it was mostly recorded at San Francisco`s `Winterland`) is the first time a Rock group presents two 16+ minutes takes of on stage improvisations with extended instrumental solos by the virtuosi players. A Rock corner stone!
FREE ~ FREE AT LAST
7th album (recorded 1972) after the band re-grouped again, following a period of chaotic membership changes. They return to the Blues-based material (what they knew best) and Rogers` vocals are superb as usual. The material is all self-penned and ranks among their best yet, with the group chemistry all together again, alas not for long.

The Japanese mini-sleeves are all sadly gone again :( It took just about a couple of hours to happen.

3 excellent new additions today:
RENAISSANCE ~ INNOCENTS & ILLUSIONS
1st & 2nd albums (recorded 1969 & 1970) by the UK Prog band, which symbolizes the genre more then any other outfit of the era. Founded by two ex-Yardbirds members (Jim McCarty & Keith Relf) and featuring Jane Relf as the lead singer, the band recorded those two excellent albums, which combined strong classical influences (emphasized by the acoustic piano parts) with rock rhythms and lyrical atmosphere. Long (over 10 minures) suites with lengthy instrumental passages are well developed and beautifully executed. This particular incarnation of the band dissolved following the release of the 2nd album, to be re-born with the phenomenal Annie Haslam as lead vocalist. This elegant reissue collects all the output of Renaissance Mk. I. A must!
ALLMAN BROTHERS ~ EAT A PEACH
4th album (recorded 1971-72) and the first release following Duane Allman`s tragic death. Originally released as a double LP, it contains 3 different sessions: studio recordings completed while Duane was still alive, studio recordings completed by the band without Duane and live recordings from the Fillmore East (included also on the DeLuxe edition of the Fillmore East album). In retrospect it is a magnificent album, full of brilliant performances and vital energy with a drop of bitter sadness. Classic stuff!
PASCOAL, HERMETO ~ SLAVES MASS
Brilliant album (recorded 1977) by the Godfather of Brazilian Jazz-World fusion. Pascoal is one of the most fascinating musical figures on the Brazilian scene and all his recordings are a feast to the ears. He is a master of many instruments and a superb composer. On this album he is supported by a stellar cast of Brazilian (Airto, Flora Purim, a.o.) and US (Ron Carter, Alphonso Johnson, a.o.) musicians and creates a wonderful texture of sound. A beauty!

All items on the two prestigious audiophile labels LINN (UK) and CHESKY (US) have been placed in the sale category today and their price was reduced to US $ 10.00. Stocks of those two labels are very limited so you are advised to check them out ASAP - they won't last long!
LINN offers both classical and jazz titles in superb sound quality. CHESKY, with their famous 128 bit oversampling, are a leader in the hi-end audiophile recording industry.

3 more excellent additions today:
WEATHER REPORT ~ TALE SPINNIN`
5th album (recorded 1975), which firmly establishes WR as a pioneering fusion band. Zawinul (as usual) comes up with some brilliant melodies and Shorter with some superb solos. Supported by a funky rhythm section with Leon `Ndugu` Chancler on drums, Alyrio Lima on persussion and Alphonso Johnson on bass, they smoke all they way to fusion heaven! A must have for all fusion fans.
SANTANA ~ LIVE AT THE FILLMORE 1968
Released almost 20 years after this music was recorded, this splendid album captures Santana blowing away the audiences at the legendary Fillmore West in San Francisco. This music was captured before the debut album was released and it shows how `together` the band was in every respect and deeply rooted they were in the art of improvasation (best witnessed on the 30+ minutes jam called `Freeway`). Great sound quality and electrifying playing make this an excellent piece of music.
SOFT MACHINE ~ FOURTH / FIFTH
4th & 5th albums (recorded 1971 & 1972) by this legendary band, which shaped the future of music by transforming from a psychedelic pop to Jazz Rock Fusion and Free Jazz in a matter of just a few short years. Fourth was the last album to feature the founding drummer Robert Wyatt, who was replaced by Phil Howard (a free jazz player) on the next album. The music is vibrant and exciting, flowing freely between composed themes and almost free improvisations, with all band members contributing extended brilliant solos. The emphasis is however on `group improvisation`, which makes the entire band to play in a thelepatic unison, similar to the atmosphere of Miles Davis group on `Bitches Brew`. Absolutely essential!

Many items back in stock!!! Among those the 2 After Crying albums (Overground Music and De Profundis) everybody is waiting for - grab them while they last!

2 excellent new Jazz additions today:
JARRETT, KEITH ~ EXPECTATIONS
This early masterpiece from 1971 by Keith Jarrett showcases for the first time his extremely wide musical horizons, stretching from blues, gospel, jazz, improvised music and conteporary piano and orchestral music. This ambitious project finds the pianist / composer in the familiar quartet setting (with Redman, Haden and Motian) enforced by additional jazz players (Brown, Airto) and large brass and string ensembles. The music moves between melodic pieces and avant-garde atonal compositions, quite a challenging listen. In retrospect this music retains the edge of surprise and electrifying spirit. Highly recommended!
MUSTAFA ZADEH, AZIZA ~ JAZZIZA
5th album (recorded 1997) by Azerbaijani pianist Aziza Mustafa Zadehm daughter of Vagif Mustafa Zadeh who was a visionary pianist / composer and one of the greatest pioneers of Jazz-World Fusion (combining Jazz and Folok music elements from Azerbaijan). Aziza follows on her father´s trail and her wonderfully lyrical piano playing and gentle scat singing brought her recognition and enthusiastic following all over the world. On this album she is accompanied by the great Belgian musicians: Toots Thielemans on harmonica and Philip Catherine on guitar. This is a kind of album every music lover in the world should listen to at least once!

Prepare to get ZAPPED!!! ;)
Athough I am a dedicated Zappoid and admire Frank's genius beyond anything, somehow so far I avoided to include his vast legacy on the site. Well it is time to remedy this now (step by step):
ZAPPA, FRANK / MOTHERS OF INVENTION ~ THREESOME NO.1
This wonderful Box Set combines the first 3 Zappa / MOI releases: Freak Out! (1966) , Absolutely Free (1967) & We`re Only In It For The Money (1968) - all genius revolutinary masterpieces of the early Zappaesque satire / social critique / insane humor, all mixed up with brilliant music. It is amazing to realize how neither the contents nor the music did not became irrelevant with time, quite the contrary - everything Frank laughs about is still all around us - greed, stupidity, politics, etc. This is visionary stuff, way beyond anything else, as Zappa was (and still is) unparalleled by anybody. If you don`t own this stuff - you must!
ZAPPA, FRANK / MOTHERS OF INVENTION ~ THREESOME NO.2
This wonderful Box Set combines the 3 Zappa / MOI releases from his instrumental Jazz-Rock and Jazz Big Band phase: Hot Rats, Waka / Jawaka & The Grand Wazoo (recorded between 1969 & 1972). A stellar cast of musicians (including Jean-Luc Ponty, George Duke, Aynsley Dunbar a.m.o) perform Frank`s sublime compositions with virtuosity and unparalleled vigor. Zappa proves not only his exceptional guitar playing but also his immense talents as composer / arranger. This is timeless music, absolutely essential to any music lover. If you never listened to this, your music appreciation is seriously impared!

One new item added today:
DJAM KARET ~ A NIGHT FOR BAKU
12th album (recorded 2002) by this unique group. The concept of the album derives from Japanese mythology and the music is enigmatic and powerful as usual. They use more keyboards and electronics than ever and the collaboration with the legendary electronic / ambient player / composer Steve Roach is wonderfully successful. The band`s many fans need no encouragement to go for this one.
