I start the November additions with just one classic:

YES ~ RELAYER (DELUXE EDITION)

8th album (recorded 1974) and definitely the last of the great Yes epics - from that moment on the band will be ridden with personell changes and internal frictions, rending it virtually non-productive. The young Swiss keyboards player Patrick Moraz replaces the ever restless Rick Wakeman, who keeps coming and going through the Yes revolving door. Moraz is an excellent player and does a superb job, considering he was drafted just a few weeks prior to the recording sessions. The music stays very much in the same pattern as the last 2-3 albums, with just 3 long pieces. The new eddition includes interesting studio and live bonus material.

===========================

Please read yesterday`s announcement about the OOAK items - remember you have less than a week to get them at the US $ 2.00 tag price, after which the price goes up to US $ 4.00 a pop. Don`t miss this opportunity to get some Christmas presents!

===========================

Speaking about Christmas, November is usually a very busy month here with all that Christmas shopping - please place your orders as promptly as possible to allow for slower delivery times due to the seasonal post-traffic overloads. I certainly hope each and every one of you will consider me as his Christmas shopping alternative!

===========================

Please note that many items are back in stock - my stock level is better then ever at the moment (not that is ever bad ;). See all Musea titles back in stock.

    Two more MIO Records added today. As you may know, the MIO label is now sadly defunct, which is a great pity and a loss to the Prog community. Their reissues of some of the rarest and greatest Prog releases was a great service to all of us for the last 3 years.

    Also please remember that all MIO releases are now practically collector`s items. The small number (500-1000) copies printed were all sold out and all the releases are now out of print.

    FLAMEN DIALIS ~ SYMPTOME-DEI

    Only album (recorded 1978) by this French Prog group. They were one of the most bizzare and advanterous groups to ever appear on the French scene with a musical style totally undescribable. There are elements of free improvisation, humor, esoteric outwordly atmosphere, etc., all this excellently performed and somehow making perfect sense. This reissue includes their ultra-rare single as bonus tracks.

    DECIBEL ~ FIAT LUX

    This wonderful Box Set collects all the recordings by the Mexican band Decibel (recorded betweem 1976 and 2001). Decibel were the only Mexican band connected with the RIO movement (most Mexican bands were / are purely symphonic) and they were heavily influenced by European groups (like Henry Cow, Magma, Faust, a.m.o.). They added a lot of their own elements to the influences and created a superb body of work that remains fascinating to this day. As their original releases are impossible to find, this reissue project is most welcome!

    Another hard to find classic album added today:

    SOFT MACHINE ~ SEVEN

    7th album (recorded 1973) and the last of the strongly improvisational jazzy oriented albums by SM, which would turn into a fusion band in the next few releases. Ratledge, Marshall, Babbington and Jenkins take a different approach this time and produce 12 much shorter pieces, rather than just a few very long ones, which of course is a lot of fun, as the album keeps changing melodies and tempos quite rapidly. Sadly under-appreciated, this is (in retrospect) a superb piece of music.

    2 more albums by the sensational Azerbaijani jazz pianist / singer Aziza Mustafa Zadeh were added today:

    MUSTAFA ZADEH, AZIZA ~ DANCE OF FIRE

    3rd album (recorded 1995) by the Azerbaijani pianist / singer. This is her most `mainstream` jazz album (if her work can be ever considered mainstream) with a stellar cast of musicians: Al Di Meola - Acoustic Guitar, Bill Evans - Soprano and Tenor Sax, Stanley Clarke - Acoustic Bass, Electric Basses, Kai E. Karpeh De Camargo - 5-string Electric Basses and Omar Hakim - Drums. The performances and the compositions are truly superb and this is one of those albums you never want to take out of your player - a must!

    MUSTAFA ZADEH, AZIZA ~ SEVENTH TRUTH

    4th album (recorded 1996) by the wonderful pianist / singer from Baku / Azerbaijan. Aziza returns to a more intimate setting on this one - accompanied only by the Indian percussion player Ramesh Shotam - she spinns and twists her intricate eastern-influenced melodies playing her heart out. The performances are full of passion and fire, as well as mystical sadness and melancholy. The cover picture created a lot of stirr, especially in her native country. A treasure!

    2 new Prog releases added today:

    JETHRO TULL ~ AQUALUNG LIVE

    This is a very special album in many respects. First, it is a live recording of a Classic Rock album - a part of a series initiated by the US XM Radio (a veteran Rock Radio station). Second, all the proceeds from this album are being donated by Mr. Anderson to charities for the homeless - a jesture rarely common among hie peers. And of course let us not forget that 34 years later JT are still around and kicking - and kicking mightly - a remarkable affair. The music and the performances are every bit as great as one might expect - just 100 % Classic Prog delight!
    Limited Edition

    WYATT, ROBERT ~ THEATRE ROYAL DRURY LANE

    This is a historical document of immense importance. Post accident Wyatt, around the time when he completed his `Rock Bottom` masterpiece, gathers here the creme de la creme of the London Prog / Avant Garde / Jazz musicians for a live performance. Present are the superb singer Julie Tippetts (aka Julie Driscoll), Mike Oldfield on guitar, Dave Stewart on Keyboards, Fred Frith on violin and guitar and many, many more great musicians, a list of which should plainly raise the hair on the back of your neck. This is something no Cabterbury / Prog fan can do without!

    2 more Weather Report albums added today, to expand the essential body of that band`s wonderful music:

    WEATHER REPORT ~ SWEETNIGHTER

    3rd album (recorded 1973) marks the transition of this great band from the Miles Davis` influenced free floating improvisations (very much in the same mood as `Bitches Brew`), which dominated the first two releases, to the groove saturated jazz-rock fusion, which would characterize the band from that moment on. The founding members - Zawinul, Shorter & Vitous - are still present here, but it becomes apparent that Zawinul will dominate the band as the main composer and Vitous is on his way out. Considering the widely different moods this album combines and the virtuoso performances, this is a timeless masterpiece.

    WEATHER REPORT ~ MYSTERIOUS TRAVELLER

    4th album (recorded 1974), which by all standards sets the definitive boundaries of jazz-rock fusion to be. Alphonso Johnson on electric bass replaces Vitous (and his acoustic bass), which adds another pulsating dimention to Zawinul`s ever expanding arsenal of electric and electronic keyboards. As a farewell gesture Vitous guests on one track (which he co-composed with Zawinul), but the revamped, electric sound present here would become the band`s trademark for the years to come. In retrospect this is all still as awe-inspiring and brilliant as it was the first time this album saw the light of day - a must!

    5 exciting new additions today:

    ======================

    First the new Djam Karet album!:

    DJAM KARET ~ RECOLLECTION HARVEST

    16th album (recorded 2004-05) and another masterful piece of music by this US Prog group. In fact this album presents two entire `albums`, called `Recollection Harvest` and `Indian Summer`. The first is a Prog / Fusion epic and the second a more introvert and relaxed electro-acoustic suite. There are few surprises here (especially for DK fans), except the fact that after so many years and so many albums they still manage to create such powerful and beautiful music with no signs of wear and tear. Excellent!

    ======================

    And now the rest of the releases by the Canadian RIO band Miriodor:

    MIRIODOR ~ PARADE / LIVE AT NEARFEST

    6th album (recorded 2005) by the greatest Canadian RIO band. Superb in every respect, they seem to get better with age, like good wine. Quirky, adventurous and zanny are just a few of the words that come to mind when reacting to their ever amazing music, which is intellectualy stumulating at all times. Guest performances by Swedish master musician - accordionist/keyboardist Lars Hollmer (of Samla Mammas Manna) - is a cherry on top! The album comes paired with the live recording from 2002 at the Nearfest festival, which of course is brilliant as well. You just can`t go wrong with this one!

    MIRIODOR ~ 3RD WARNING

    3rd album (recorded 1991) by the Canadian RIO trio. In spite of the limitations set by their small format, the group manages to create a varied and rich sound, mostly by using synthesizers in addition to the main instruments they play (piano, sax and percussion). The music is unpredictable and therefore wonderfully surprising, with melodies and tempos changing at neckbreaking speed and freequency. Inspired by their European counterparts, they create a truly unique Canadian musical voice.

    MIRIODOR ~ MIRIODOR

    2nd album (recorded 1988) by the Canadian trio, which is closely associated with the RIO movement. The group includes three musicians, who play their main instruments (piano, saxophone and percussion) as well as synthesizers, and they create some of the most interesting music to come out of Canada. This reissue includes also material (recorded in quartet format in 1986) as bonus tracks.

    MIRIODOR ~ RECONTRES

    1st album (recorded 1984-85) by the Canadian group, which would later be closely associated with the Rio movement, but started as a `classic` Prog group with six musicians. The album presents some beautifuly melodic music, well orchestrated and excellently played, with traces of classical as well as Prog influences. A very impressive debut, although not foretelling at all the groups future work. Bonus material not included on the original vinyl release is included.

    Canterbury Day today ;) - all 4 new additions feature Canterbury scene musicians:

    SOFT MACHINE ~ LIVE IN PARIS

    Live recording from 1972, capturing a whole SM performance at the Paris Olympia. The line-up present here (Dean, Hopper, Marshall & Ratledge) recorded together the 2nd part of their `Fifth` album, which is the only studio recording they made. Therefore this wonderfuly well recorded concert is a great document of the band. The material includes tunes from `Third` and `Fifth`, as well as tunes that are not available elsewhere. The performances are brilliant, as ever, and this is a must to every SM fan. This album was released in the mid 1990`s on the One Way Records label as `Live In France`, but has been out of print for ages.

    MILLER, PHIL / IN CAHOOTS ~ ALL THAT

    `In Cahoots` is Phil Miller`s band devised as a vehicle for his compositions and including the top UK jazz and fusion players. This 2003 recording features a sextet, which includes Phil`s old collaborators - Pete Lemer (keyboards), Fred Baker (bass) and Elton Dean (saxes) - and some newer ones - Jim Dvorak (trumpet) and Mark Fletcher (drums, who replaced the veteran Pip Pyle). The music is excellent all the way, some of it more fusion oriented and some pointing more towards jazz. The legendary players all live up to their names and every Canterbury fan will find this music remarkable.

    MILLER, PHIL ~ DIGGING IN

    Legendary guitarist Phil Miller recorded this album in 1991 with his regular companions, also known as `In Cahoots` (Baker, Lemer & Pyle). The music here is much more jazz oriented here that Miller`s adventures with the top Prog Canterbury ensembles (Hatfield, National Health), but his unmistakable brilliance and tone are all here for us to enjoy. Phil is a unique guitarist and this album proves it yet again.

    MILLER, PHIL ~ CUTTING BOTH WAYS

    Miller`s debut album as a leader (recorded 1985-86) presents two aspects of his activity: First the more jazz oriented work with his `In Cahoots` ensemble (Dean, Hopper, Lemer & Pyle) and second the more Prog oriented collaboration with Dave Stewart and Barbara Gaskin. All of it is excellent, which of course comes as no surprise after his contributions in bands like Matching Mole, Hatfield and the North and National Health. Miller is a Canterbury icon!

    Gentle Giant day today! ;) - 3 new GG additions today - last 2 (so far) of the 35th Anniversary Editions and the 1997 archive box set:

    GENTLE GIANT ~ THE POWER AND THE GLORY (35TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION)

    6th album (recorded 1974) is GG`s concept album about power and corruption (the rumors saying it was about Watergate were denied by the band). GG were at their creative peak at that time and this is a glorious album in every respect, with the usual unpredictable, ever changing melodies and perfect instrumental and vocal delivery. Things can hardly get any better as far as Prog is concerned.

    GENTLE GIANT ~ INTERVIEW (35TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION)

    8th album (recorded 1976) is another GG concept album, this time about the music industry and it`s treatment of musicians. No wander the group decided to make this issue the theme of their album, as they were increasingly frustrated by their lack of success and pressure to record more `commercial` material. The material on this album is actually more `easy` and rocky, but the GG genius is still omnipresent here, although it shows the first signs of the change in direction that were to follow. For GG fans it is a must anyway!

    GENTLE GIANT ~ UNDER CONSTRUCTION

    Released in 1997, this great Box Set includes unreleased GG material spanning their entire career (1970-1980). It is the first of the archive material sets, which was later completed by the `Scraping The Barrel` set in 2004. The music includes everything a GG fan might dream about - unreleased studio material, demo versions, alternate versions, etc. A truly revealing glimpse into the GG creative process.

    Today I celebrate the addition of 3 new Israeli Prog albums. Considering how few Prog albums were produced here, this is a real field day!:

    LORD FLIMNAP ~ POINT OF VIEW

    Only album (recorded 1988-89) by a trio of young Israeli musicians (aged 15/16 at the time), this became the most mysterious and illusive Israeli Prog album ever. Released in Israel in 1989 on casette only, it was released later by a small german label on CD, but the label never mentioned that the material comes from Israel. The label folded soon after the album was released and the CD disappeared from the market and became a rare collector`s item. Now it is available again with some bonus material recorded in the early 1990`s. It is truly unbelievable that such young musicians were able to produce an album, which easily stands its ground to all other Prog albums recorded in Israel. A most welcome reissue!

    LEMMUS LEMMUS ~ CHAMELEON MOOD SWINGS

    1st album (recorded 2002-03) by a new Israeli group, which mixes elements of Psychedelia and Prog and produces some truly spectacular effects. They use a vintage Moog (previously owned by Pink Floyd) and the music is heavily influenced by Psychedelic innovations of the late 1960`s, but the sound is crispy clear and modern. Combined with English vocals, this could be easily mistaken as originating in UK(?). This is a must for all Psychedelic freaks! Outstanding.

    SUSSITA ~ SUSSITA

    1st album (recorded 2004) by a new Israeli group formed by young musicians, who play and sing a superb collection of great songs which mix folk and jazz influences into a completely new and fresh sound. If you are fimiliar with the classic `Sheshet` album, this is in many ways an updated follow up. With flute, female vocals (all vocals in Hebrew) and mostly acoustic instruments, this is a delightful debut!

    Two great new additions today:

    WALLACE, IAN ~ HAPPINESS (WITH MINIMAL SIDE EFFECTS)

    1st album (recorded 2002). It took Ex-KC drummer Ian Wallace almost 30 years to come up with his first solo effort, but it was definitely worth waiting for. This excellent album is probably the strongest and most consistent piece of music recorded by any of the ex-KC many members. Wallace collected a multi-talented group of musicians to help him record, including Ian McDonald, Pat Mastelotto (both ex-KC as well) and the truly magnificent Clive Gregson on guitar. Definitely worth getting, not only for KC fans.

    FISSION TRIP ~ VOLUME ONE

    1st album (recorded 2004). What happens when you put together two ex-members of a legendary UK Prog group King Crimson (Ian Wallace and Mel Collins) with two ex-members of a legendary Texan Prog band Hands (Michael Clay and Ernie Myers)? You get one ass-kicking new band called Fission Trip, combining the best of two worlds - the KC dark and hypnotic atmosphere with Hands jazzy / fusion elements. Add to this guest artists such as Adrian Belew and you get one of the best albums on the Prog scene in years! Absolute must, don`t even think twice about it!

    Two new additions today:

    JOHN`S CHILDREN ~ THE COMPLETE

    This album collects all the recordings (recorded 1966-67 and including their only album `Orgasm`, singles and many bonus tracks) by the UK Psychedelic group John`n Children, known only due to the fact that future Rock idol Marc Bolan (T Rex) was a member of the group. However, they are definitely worth being remembered in their own respect as the group produced some of the best, most advanced and revolutionary Psycheledic music on the UK scene, with complex melodies and great instrumental work. A must to all Psych-heads and a great listen to the `general public`.

    RENAISSANT ~ SOUTH OF WINTER

    As the name of the band suggests, this is a new attempt to revive the `spirit` of the great Renaissance by ex-members Terrence Sullivan (drums) and John Tout (piano). They also recruited the original Renaissance lyricist Betty Thatcher and a score of guest musicians and recorded this album in 2004. Since several previous attempts to immitate the great band were more or less pathetic, this one comes as a great surprise. The album sounds in every respect as a `lost` original Renaissance album, with beautifuly melodic songs, perfectly played and sung by Christine Sullivan, who may not have Annie Haslam`s 5 octave range, but is perfect in what she does. Renaissance fans should be really excited about this one!

    Two Israeli Jazz additions today:

    JAZZ BEATLES ~ JAZZ BEATLES

    Israeli quintet `Jazz Beatles` was formed in 1997 as a special project for the Tel Aviv Jazz Festival. It includes some of the best Israeli jazz players: Amikam Kimelman (leader, arranger, sax), Eli Benakot (sax), Avi Adrian (piano), Arie Volinez (bass) and Eitan Itzkovitz (drums). Although Beatles` tunes are very popular with jazz players all over the world, this ensemble manages to give them new life thanks to the original arrangements and brilliant playing. This is mainstream jazz, which does exactly what it is supposed to do - it swings like hell.

    PORTUGALY, IRIS & OFER ~ EDEN

    Iris & Ofer Portugaly are the most famous jazz couple in Israel. Iris, a seasoned vocalist with deep roots in the gospel and blues traditions and Ofer a gifted composer, arranger and keyboards player. They have been active on the Israeli jazz scene since the early 1990`s (after returning from their music studies in the US). This is their 2nd album, recorded 1995. The music is mostly original (by Ofer), with just a few standards. Iris sings both in Hebrew and English. The album acheived great success in Japan and is a superb example of what the young generation of Israeli-born jazz musicians can do.

    Two classic albums added today:

    NICE ~ THE THOUGHTS OF EMERLIST DAVJACK (DELUXE EDITION)

    1st album (recorded 1967) by one of the most important groups instrumental in the creation of the Prog genre. Led by the keyboards wizard Keith Emerson and here as a quartet with David O`List on guitar. Amazing mixture of psychedelic rock / jazz and classical influences creates a unique sound unparallel to anything elso done at that time. This is visionary music and a classic album if ever there was one. This addition adds fabulous previously unavailable material, both studio and live. A must!

    COLOSSEUM ~ THOSE WHO ARE ABOUT TO DIE SALUTE YOU (DELUXE EDITION)

    1st album (recorded 1969) by the best ever UK blues / rock / jazz outfit. Formed by the finest UK jazz and blues players at the time and led by the drummer Jon Hiseman, they were a mean and well oiled playing machine delivering virtuoso performances at neck-breaking speed and mastery. Some great compositions by all band members (especially Dave Greenslade) - this music gets better with time like good wine. This edition adds previously unavailable studio tracks.

    Here are the last additionis for this month, the rest of the Cream legacy:

    CREAM ~ GOODBYE

    4th album (recorded 1968) and as the album suggests the group`s swan song. It includes the last 3 studio tracks they would ever record, especially the super classic `Badge` (co-composed by Eric Clapton and George Harrison) and one of the greatest anthems of the era. The other 3 tracks are recorded live and allow the musicians to stretch out and improvise - something they did better then any other of their peers. In just under two years Cream existed, they revolutionised the face of rock as we know it, opening it for endless possibilities and including elements of jazz-influenced improvisation rarely used in rock earlier. One can truly say they left the scene with a bang!

    CREAM ~ LIVE CREAM

    5th album (recorded 1968), released after the group disbanded. It includes material recorded at San Francisco`s Winterland and Fillmore East and presents the group at its full glory, stretching out and jamming with ferrosity and fire rarely present in music. The sound is superb, which is quite understandable as these recording were made by the best sound engineer in the US - Tom Dowd (he also recorded Disraeli Gears). The album also includes a previously unreleased studio outtake from the Disreali Gears sessions. A classic live recording and a must!

    CREAM ~ LIVE CREAM VOLUME II

    6th album (recorded 1968), released after the group disbanded. It includes tracks recorded at Oakland`s Coliseum Arena and San Francisco`s Winterland, captured and engineered by Tom Dowd, which means the sound is first class. What else can be said about this stuff except that every second of Cream ever captured on tape is worth having and this album is no exception. Just lay back and enjoy - music of the Gods!

    ======================

    Another massive stock update today - as of this moment only about 5 % of my catalog (which now includes over 2,000 titles) is out of stock (due to record labels` fault - not mine) a record figure by any standards.
