Vote for your overall favorite. Lyrics, songs, arrangements, legend, the whole package. Also both have a long history.
Both currently have a keyboardist singer lyricist and a fretboard guy who is needed for the overall song to come out right. I presume both bands have somewhat similar song writing pairs. Correct me if I am wrong on that aspect.

Aika vaikea lähteä näitä kahta vertailemaan. Wigwamin parhaat levyt miellyttää enemmän kuin Steely Danin, toisaalta Wigwamin heikoimmat tekeleet ovat huomattavasti karmivampia kuin SD:n kehnoimmat.

I am looking at a Steely Dan hits collection, and Wigwam's Highlights collection. It was with Nuclear Nightclub that the greatest similarity was, in production. The "spirit" echo that Maijanen sings could have easily been Steely Dan.
I am more used to Pembroke singing, so Fagen has taken some getting used to.
Not that I don't like the lighter Wigwam stuff or Steely Dan. I actually like the hits of Steely Dan, excepting Rikki, better than most album cuts.
In the case of both bands, I like the piano parts. Pembroke gets to show off more on solo works, but you can hear it even on Nuclear Nightclub.

I like both but I guess Wigwam means more to me. Both had pretty weak comeback efforts.
I think I won't even look into the Steely Dan comeback. A few songs still missing I remember. Maybe the library.
Wigwam did OK in my mind with Titan's Wheel, though it was a bit too mahtipontinen. :!: Moons I got tired of, only a few songs stand on their own.
This seems to be a pretty much landslide vote so far, 7 to 2 [update, 8 to 3]. Unless five Steely Dan fans crawl out from somewhere, we declare Wigwam the winner. For studio albums, up to Light Ages I would say there were no flops in the Wigwam albums. Live Music from the ..Twilight Zone only suffered from shitty sound, and WPW Live had too much compression.
Tombstone Valentine suffered a bit from too much arrangements and production. After all, the band could play their stuff. It was like the Steely Dan first album in many ways.
Mun mielestä Wigut on aika mölö paska bändi, josta vähän oltiin 1970-luvulla kiinnostuneita, lähinnä Musan/Soundin sitä hehkutettua (omine motiiveinensa)

Sen vertaaminen taas Steely Daniin - bändiin maailmanmitassa - on sen luokan kategoriavirhe, että "no comments".

Blah, neither one of these bands interest me much. But I do own a few CDs by Wigwam but none from Steely Dan so my vote is secured in the iglu.

Well well. We Progemiehet disagree. The band with Jukka and Jim was one of my personal favorites through the 70s, as much as Jethro Tull. I would put them side by side with many bands of the era, even VDGG and Yes. In fact I never enjoyed the Yes vocals as much. But we did concede it was a step toward Light Rock, AOR, when Jukka and Pekka left. Like Waldemar says in that link

Öh, niin, sitten Korjus toi kauppaoppilaitokselle, samalle lavalle jossa mm. Man oli esiintynyt, uuden Wigunsa. Olihan se, aika etäistä vain.
Mutta näen sen etäisyyden vieläkin. piru vieköön, Keitelejazzissa oli Marjo Leinonen bändeineen, levyllä ihan kuunneltavaa, ehkä. Mutta sitten lavalle nousi The British Blues Quintet featuring Maggie Bell (UK). Olihan se ero edelliseen kuin yöllä päivällä. nämä antoi 110% joka sielu siellä itsestään.
Zoot Moneyn olin muuten nähnyt samalla Kopiksen lavalla Kevin Coynen bändissä. Sekin oli ikimuistoinen keikka, josta olen nähnyt kuvia vaikka missä.
Waldemar's Nuclear Nightclub review in Soundi (or was it still Musa at the time?) started with such overblown English text that it was almost hilarious.
Being on loistava levy, mutta muuten Wigwam on mulle ollut ainakin progebändina (rokkiahan suurin osa levyistä on) aina selkeetä b-sarjaa.
If you want to view it that way, Wigwam was indeed a sort of an incubator, as they say in the business world, for things to come. For Pekka. Also could have been for Jukka. But Jukka could not deal with fame.
The interaction with Tolonen, well, I prefer Tolonen on his own.
off the topic, tässä eräänä päivänä selailin wanhoja Musa-lehtiä, ja havaitsin mm. tollasen, että Waldemarhan se oli, joka lausui kuolemattomat sanat Captain Beefheartin Trout Mask Replicasta, ne meni jotenkin näin: ."..jotkut pitävät tätä pop-musiikin kulmakivenä ja klassikkona, mutta minusta tämä on pikemminkin kokoelma totaalisen narkin tölväyksiä..."

Waldemarin teksti on ovelaa ja manipuloivaa, Danin Countdown to Ecstasy, released in 1973, sekä Nuclear Nightclub kuuluvat levyihin joita en vahingossakaan kuuntele, en ainakaan jälkimmäistä, vaikka joku The Boston Rag tai Show Biz Kids joskus soisikin Countdown to Ecstasylta.
Mutta siis W:n tuota kirjoittaessa olivat jo ilmestyneet sekä Pretzel Logic että Katy Lied !
The Royal Scam ja Aja olivat tulevia, ja bändi tietysti voidaan rehellisyyden nimissä nyt muistaa noista parhaista hetkistään.

I just never saw much in TMR, it is pretty amateur stuff. I liked the later Beffheart work better. He did not really add much to Bongo Fury.

Back to SD. I have neglected Pretzel Logic too long. I think it will be my favorite, aside from hit collection. It was only Rikki that turned me off it. I like the whole thing, so I may occasionally play Rikki on it.
Michael McDonaldin johtama Dooby Brothers (marisätkäveljet) oli lähin vertailukohta Steely Danille, samoja soundeja (harmonioita) ja jopa soittajia, joskus.
Hmmm... v. 2001 bändiä esitellessään jonkun soittajistaan ansioksi Fagen mainitsi Boobyiesit, en muista kenen.

There really was only a parallel between Fagen and Pembroke, singers songwriters. Wigwam was quite a bit more, at times. A real band, not Jim's puppets.
